The First Blog Experience

Congratulations! You made it. This will be the website where our class meets and works this year. We will be using the computers and the web as a tool for publishing, reading and responding to each other's ideas. Since this is day one, your goal is to post a comment to the question at the end of this entry.

Here's what to do: (read this whole post before starting)
1. Click on the "comments" link at the bottom of this post.
2. Click on "Show original post" so you can see this again.
3. Write your comment in the box on the right. Pay careful attention to grammar, capitals, spelling and punctuation as you will be graded on these. (This is your schoolwork, not MSN!)
4. Where is says "Identity" under the box where you typed your comment, click on the button for "other".
5. Type your first name and only the initial of your last name (ex. "George W."). Leave the "your web page" box empty, even if you do have a webpage.
6. Type the letters and/or numbers that you see into the word verification box.
7. Click "Publish Your Comment."

Tips (I hope you are reading this before you make your comment)
1. You can use Word to type your comment, then spell check it and cut and paste it into the box - that way Word can help you find some of your mistakes.
2. What you write can and will be read by many people - all of the grade 7's plus your teachers, some parents and maybe even by people around the world. Think about what you are going to say, because once it's posted, you can't change it.

Now, here's the question:
If you could wish to be either smarter than you are now or happier than you are now, which would you wish for? Why?

I look forward to reading your answers. If you finish early, go back to the main page and you can read the comments other people have left. Or check out this blog entry from another teacher about students from different places in the world and their blogs. Take a look at some of their entries.

I wish to be smarter than happier because if you aren’t smart you wouldn’t know anything. First of all if you aren’t smart you wouldn’t go to university and you could work. Second of all because be smart is the thing that would help you in life and in all of what you are doing. And last of all is that you can do more things if you are smarter and people would like a smart person than a happier and beautiful.

If I could choose between being smarter and being happier I would choose to be happier. I think that if you are happy then you can do what you want. To be smart, I think, you have to be happy first because if not you are going to be mad or sad in life so you won’t be interested in learning nothing. I think that if you are happy anything can happen: you can make more money, make friends, get smarter, and also make other people happy.

Well, I would rather be happier than smarter. Why, because I think that to have a better life and a happy life you need to be happy. Sometimes like in school you are intelligent but you are not happy because people treat you bad and humiliate you. But being smarter also has their good things: you can have a better future and you will not have to much problems getting a job or something like that. But I really think that if you are not happy in your life you are not going to have a happy life and I think that the most important goal in a persons life ie to live in a happy and calmly way. Although you need to be intelligent to have a better future, But if you put be to pick I will say happiness but a really liked to live with both of them.

That is a good question. I think I would wish to be happier than I am right now. I mean, intelligence is important, but without happiness you won´t want to be smarter. Happiness is the key to learning. For example let´s say there´s this boy who´s a prodigy but doesn´t take advantage of it because he´s so miserable and unhappy. If he had the spirit to study, he would accomplish great things. He could even end up being the president. So that´s why I think happiness comes before intelligence. If you are happy enough, then concentrate on studying. If not, then raise your spirits and march on! I am happy enough so I am concentrating on studying. This is just advise to those who are feeling down.

I would wish to be smarter because you can have more opportunities and a better life and you can be happier in your life. You can go to better places and you could be happier that way.

If I wish something,I might wish to be smarter. I am smart, but actually I can be smarter. Being smart helps me to understand things going on, analize them, etc. I prefer to be smarter because as I am very inteligent in some things I can also be a little ignorant in others. Being smart doesn't only helps me in school, but outside school. Inteligennce doesn't only comes with luck, if I realy want to be smarter I need to work harder, and also pay alot of attention in classes....

I will chose to be more intelligent because I think I am al ready very happy. If I could be more intelligent I could have a better future because I could be a good student at the university, I could get awards in good universities, and obviously I could have a great figure on my job and that would make my happier, not also to me also to my family and that would make me more and more happier.

I would rather be smarter than happier because I think that if you are smart you can get happiness at the way that you would have lots of opportunities. Go to important places were you can know different people that share your same things and feel the same way as you. In a future can afford with your intelligence to go to a very good college, have work opportunities that you can only get with effort and skills and many other things... I think that those things that make you feel good, complements for a person to be happy.

I would pick to be smarter because that will make me happier than what I am right now plus that will open many doors in my life like university, work, and those things make me happy so if I pick to be smarter I am actual getting the two wishes. Its not that I prefer to be smarter Is that I am already very happy.

Anonymous said...

I will rather be happier than smarter .Because being smarter without being happy would make me sad slowly because if I am sad I would not have love from others I would be a lonely person. I will want to be happier because being happy will motivate me to be a smart person, I will have people who love me and care for me and I will be a happy person with a happy life.

I wish to be happier because if you are happy you can do what ever you want. If you are happier you can be smarter, and you would make a lots of goals because you would put a lot of effort and we would have positive mind always. I prefer to be happy because I would not like get home everyday mad I would like to be happy.

Anonymous said...

I think I will wish to be smarter because in the future it will make me happier. Like that I will have both wishes. Ex: If I wish to be smarter I will have a great job and that will make me happier .My mother and father will be happy because of that job. Another reason is that I am already happy so I don’t need to be happier.

I think I would like to more intelligent, because it can help in my future, and in can help to get a job, hapiness is important but I already feel happy enough to live. Being intelligent is not only on math is on everything physics, geometry, World History, English, Science and many more. If I would have a 2 wish it would be hapiness, off corse.

I will rather be happier than smart. If I’m happier of what I am, my life will be great... My happiness will motivate me to become smarter each day. If I’m happy my life will be easier… I will have more friends than the ones I have. That is what I think…:)

Anonymous said...

I would like to be smarter because now I am very happy. I am happy with all I have and how I live. Really I don’t want neither of the two smarter or happy, because how I am now I feel smart maybe I would want to feel more smarter but I don’t want to be more happy. I am happy ex: I have a great life I live in a cool place I have a great family I study in a great school were I have great friends, also I play my favorite sport that is soccer, I am really happy. Maybe I would want to be smarter because sometimes I don’t know thing I would like to now in some subjects like Spanish. Spanish had been a great problem to me since fourth grade so I don’t learn too much in Spanish but in the other subjects I am good.

If you could wish to be either smarter than you are now or happier than you are now, which would you wish for? Why?

I will like to be smarter because it will be easy to pass the year. And I will be a good student maybe the best!

Example: I was thinking that I will pass 7 grades B- but if I am more intelligent I will past it in an A+.

These notes will help me in the future and my dads will be proud of me.
And when you are intelligent you are happier and make other people happier like your family like that my dad will give me a gift o yeah, but I will give a gift to my self like good notes

I would wish to be happier because if you are happy with you and your surroundings you could do many things and achieve your goals. In life people need to laugh in some embarrassing situations like when you fall down in a stupid manner and all the people around you start to laugh. If you don’t have happiness you would probably be mad but happiness, a laugh and a smile, can do everything. If you are happy you can be smarter but if you are smart and without happiness you can’t do anything.

Anonymous said...

If I got to choose between those two I will choose to be smarter, because it helps you with everything, I mean in everything you do, have to do with thinking... and also you cannot be intelligent if you are not happy so if I choose to be smarter I would actually be choosing both... well that’s what I think... Even thought right know I am really fine with what I have.

If I could wish to be smarter or wish to be happier, I would choose to be smarter. I would choose to be smarter because being smarter is more important than happier to me. Why? Being smarter is more important than happier because if you are smart you can win a scholarship and then have a job in a good place to work and win a lot of money. And, if you are winning a lot of money, obviously you will be happier. I would not choose to be happier because being happier does not makes you smarter but being smarter can make you very happy and make others happy. If you get good grades your family will be very proud of me. In conclusion, being smarter is better than being happier.

I will rather prefer to be happier than smarter; this is so because I am satisfied with my intelligence and with what I can think. Another thing is that once you are happy with yourself and your surroundings you get motivated to to study and be smarter each time. Although being smarter is a good thing everyone wants to achieve, for me being happier it’s even more important, I can be the smartest person in the world, but I am still not happy enough to keep on being it. I agree with what Paulina says, happiness can do anything.=)

Anonymous said...

I will prefer to be happier because I think that I’m intelligent enough to understand things and to do them my own way, but I agree with Cata that you can be intelligent and happy at the same time. If you are happier than what your now you would have a greater attitude to learn more and have a greater development. I think it will be fun to consider that wish come true. Hopefully!!

I wish that I could be smarter rather than happier because I really don’t think I could be much happier in this moment. Intelligence can easily get you into a good college and get you a good job and you can have a good life and that would make you much happier in many ways, but if I would be made to pick it again, I would definetely pick intellingence, and happiness does NOT make you more intelligent in any way.

Anonymous said...

It is a very difficult question because I am happy and intelligent.
I think I would choose to be smarter; it would be helpful at school, and could give me a scholar ship to a good university. If I’m smarter I would have a better future and a good job. I’m happy now so choosing to be smarter would be better, being happy doesn’t affect your grades or gives you a scholar ship, and I am already very happy. So I choose to be smarter.

Anonymous said...

That is a very important question. I wish I would be smarter. I chose that because I think I am very happy right now, so I prefer to be smarter. Be in smarter would give me many good things. For example it would be easier for the tests, quizzes, homework, and even for passing the year and going to the university. With that you will have more opportunities on your life; you will have a better future. I think this wish will help me a lot.

Anonymous said...

It is a very good question... I would rather be smarter than happier, because in that way i can be happier at the time i would get better grades and off course i can be very happy at the same time. there are lots of good things when you are smarter, like youre parents will be gifted of the grades and exams. And most important is getting a scholarship, and to be smarter will give me more opportunities for getting a good job...:P

I would wish to be happier becuase, if you are happy you can do many things and achieve many things. If you are smarter but not happy you wont be so motivated to make all your goals. Being happy is very important for me, to my family and friend. Because if I am not happy I am showing negative attitude to everyone. With happiness you can do a lot of things actualy what ever you want to do. With happines you can give love and friendship to others, and that is very good because you feel good giving this emotional things to everyone. So that is what I think!..:d

Anonymous said...

I wish I could be happier because when you are happy you could do many things better because you’ll do it with more enthusiasm. Also is good because you wouldn’t get angry so much and wont fight or lose my friends. To be happy is good because you could make other people happier like your parents, family and people around you. Been smart is also good because you could get better grades or win scholarship to the best university.

Anonymous said...

I wish I could be smarter than happier, because I think I am really happy. I really think I am smart but a little more would not make any harm. I considered my self really happy even though sometimes I get stressed. I think when you are smart you feel happy and proud about your self… (Don’t think I don’t want to be happy or that I am not smart is that I don’t think I need more happiness.)

Anonymous said...

If you could wish to be either smarter than you are now or happier than you are now, which would you wish for? Why?
If I could wish to be smarter or happier than what I am now I’ll pick to be happier because really it doesn’t matter if you are smart if you’re not happy and you will always be grumpy. Also your attitude affects your studding and grades. Example; if you are in class and your teacher says you have homework the happy person wont complain but the smart one perhaps will and then comes his grade down. But if I could pick both I will.

I want to be smarter because my life can’t be happier. I have the best family than support me when I need and they are always available for me. They love my difficulties because they make me unique. I didn’t even think in which I was going to choice because I love my life.

Anonymous said...

Well, I always will prefer to be happier, because I think that happiness is more important that being smarter because if I weren’t happy being smarter wouldn’t have sense. Right now I am very happy but I would like always to be each day happier. And if I am happy each day I would be motivated to be smarter.

Anonymous said...

Really now am fine but I will take smarter because if now I am smart and happy I will be very smart and happy. Then I will get many things and that will make me much happy. Also in a future I will like to go to a good university neither on Spain, Medellin or USA. But no manner which one I go I will try to do my best. And when I grow up I will like to do my father’s work. That is business administration.

Ok, so the question is that if I had a wish I would rather choose to be more intelligent or happier right? Well I think this question is weird but some how it’s intelligent. I will definitely choose to be happier because I think that to be intelligent you will need some how to be happy. Well happiness gives you variety of things, all life matches with happiness; you need to be happy to make things. A person who is not happy can never be intelligent well, maybe yes but.. It will never be the same to be also happy. Happiness is something wonderful that you must never change. So use those opportunities and things god give you because happiness is not something you can buy is something that you have inside.. =) !!

It is very difficult to choose between being intelligent and being happier. But, I prefer to choose being more happier. I choose this one, not because I don’t have the happiness of the world, NO!. I choose it because I think that having happiness is much important than being smarter. If I have the opportunity to be happier it would be great because I would do a bunch of good things and also help people.

Anonymous said...

If I could choose between being smarter and being happier, I would choose to be happier. To be smarter, you need to study and learn. So if you are smarter and you are not happy, why would you want to learn if you are not going to enjoy the time learning? If I’m happier, everyday I would have more motivation and enthusiasm to learn, that would made me smarter which is what I want.

If I could choose between being smarter and being happier I will chosse being smarter. I think that if you are an smart person you will happy too and also you can get an scholarship to be in a wonderful university. If you are an smarter person your parents would be proud of you and that would make you even happier.Maybe youcoould get very good job were they pay you very well maybe you are a very intelligent person and you could be a president or a senator. These are my reasons in which I prefer being smarter t6han being happier.ledokft

I will rather beeing smart than beeing happy, cause I think I'm already happy for this school year, and for the rest of my life. I'm agree with Luis C. but what my mind dictates is that with all what I got, and how I am, I feel great, and possitive. Maybe beeing happy might be better cause if there's no happiness on life.
